ABOUT THE HONORARY CONSUL
The Honorable Michael Corey Chan
Michael was appointed Honorary Consul by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia in December 2010 and served through July 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona. The US Department of State accredited his re-appointment to San Diego County, California & Clark County, Nevada in August 2018. Consul Chan has held leadership positions in government, non-profit and the private sector. He has also volunteered for law enforcement agencies and various boards and commissions. He is fluent in English, Chinese and Spanish.
Consul Chan currently serves as the Director of Employee Relations Services at a Medical Research Institute in La Jolla, CA. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for Caritas in Veritate and the San Diego Human Resources (SDHR) Forum. Consul Chan is a member of the Consular Corps of San Diego, an Honorary Commander with the San Diego County Sheriffs Department, a member of the San Diego Police Department Foundation - Police Council, a full member of the Ancient & Noble Order of the Knights Templar, Chairman Emeritus of the Consular Corps of Arizona, and his family hold an interest in the fashion label - Lafayette 148 NY.
In 2018, the Royal House of Georgia honored Michael with membership into the Royal Order of the Crown of the Kingdom of Georgia with the rank of Knight Commander. In 2014, he was awarded a Papal Ambassadorship and in 2015 was presented with the Pope Francis Charity and Leadership Award in recognition of his dedication and commitment to rendering assistance to those most in need. In 2010, former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio appointed him as a Captain - Special Deputy in his organization. Consul Chan was also recognized with an Excellence Award by the Mayor of the City of Phoenix - Arizona.
Consul Chan has a Law degree with First Class Honors, a Master of Arts Degree with Distinction in Human Resources Management and a Doctorate in Management. He also holds a 2nd Degree (Nidan) Black Belt in Jujutsu - recognized by the Imperial Temple of Japan and certified through the International Bujutsu University. During his free time, he enjoys weight training, snowboarding, travel, charitable work, international affairs and walks with his dogs.
